Why you should start a company while studying

You can do a lot of things during your studies, learn (of course), or you can start your own company. This is not only fun but also has numerous advantages, some of which we have listed here for you.

Because you are young

If it goes wrong you have all your life to pay off the debt, no, of course, you shouldn’t go into debt, after all, there are a lot of business ideas that you can implement without great investments, but if you do If you want to take a little more risk then it is, in fact, better to do that at a young age, as you a) probably have not yet accumulated great possessions with which you could be liable and b) do not yet have any responsibility for a family of your own, with a wife and child, you tend to take fewer risks later.

Because you have time

If we’re being honest, then as a student you have a lot of time (well, it may depend on the course of study, at least that’s how it was in Bwl) instead of going out to party with friends every other day and then until 14/15, You could also use the time more productively by sleeping. With an 8-10 hour day, the “own company” project becomes much more strenuous. Of course, you don’t have to invest all of your free time in setting up a company, there are enough ideas that can be implemented profitably with a time investment of 5-10 hours per week (ie 1-2 per weekday).

Because you need money

Beer is expensive. Entry to the club is expensive. Even the frozen pizza is not given for free. Facing the facts, most students could do with some extra income. Instead of clearing shelves somewhere, carrying plates around, or doing some auxiliary work as a student trainee, you can also invest your time in setting up your own business. The chances that you will eventually earn more than 450 euros per month are relatively good.

Because you have the resources

Besides the knowledge (haha) you get a lot of other things at the university, mostly even for free. Various software, access to databases, the expertise of professors, WiFi. Pretty much every university also has special offers for founders, be it consulting services or the opportunity to use rooms at the university.

Because you can show off

Of course, life is not just about work, it can also be a little fun now and then. Whether with a potential employer, with Tinder, or simply at the next flatshare party: only very few can come up with their own company, so you have something to stand out from the crowd.

Because it’s fun

Sure, maybe you don’t have time to go out with friends now and then, or you still have to deal with your own business after the lecture. But there are also the moments when you see that everything makes sense when the first customer orders something from you, for example. or when a newspaper reports about you or when you can finance a great vacation with the money you’ve earned or or or … you could almost say that the fun outweighs the thing. At least if you find a business idea that you put your heart into.

Because you gain experience

What is taught to you at the university is often dry and has little to do with practice, ie the shock later on at work is usually great. You can cushion that a bit if you gain practical experience beforehand, many classically do this through internships and student traineeships. But there is also the problem, pretty much everyone has an internship on their résumé, but only very few start their own company. So even if you notice that self-employment is out of the question for you, you have gathered a good argument why you should be invited to an interview.

Because maybe

Maybe the small business that was initially only supposed to finance your beer consumption will one day become a really big company. Many entrepreneurs gained their first entrepreneurial experience during their time at university; Facebook, for example, was created in a student residence hall. Certainly, not every idea becomes a global corporation, but with founding, you at least lay the foundation for it to become that way.

Hopefully, with this post, we could convince you that it is a pretty cool and meaningful thing to start your own company during your studies.

If you have already founded a company, we would be happy if you shared your experience with us. Either by comment or in the form of a more detailed article/interview, just get in touch.
